Magellan Announces SmartGPS Navigation App Integration With Bosch SoftTec's mySPIN Platform

Bosch and Magellan to Demonstrate Magellan SmartGPS App on mySPIN Platform at International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas

January 6, 2015 – Las Vegas, NV – Magellan, a leader of innovative GPS devices and content services for vehicles, fitness, outdoor, and mobile navigation, announces the integration of its SmartGPS navigation software into Bosch SoftTec's mySPIN infotainment platform. This partnership marks the first integration of Magellan's SmartGPS smartphone navigation application into an automotive OEM infotainment platform. Bosch will demonstrate the Magellan SmartGPS app in its booth Sands Expo Level 2, Booth #71032 at the International CES® show.

The Magellan SmartGPS Apps for iOS and Android are an extension of Magellan's SmartGPS Eco cloud platform. The SmartGPS Eco cloud platform is built on a robust architecture supporting content aggregation, personalization and localized delivery. The Magellan SmartGPS Eco cloud platform is designed to integrate with connected car solutions requiring navigation with real time, personalized local content.

This complete navigation solution from Magellan provides the Bosch mySPIN Connected Car platform with the following features and content presented with the navigation map:

  • Turn-by-Turn Navigation with Landmark Guidance-Voice-guided navigation using landmarks as a guide versus street names available with subscription .
  • Real Time IP Traffic-Drivers can navigate efficiently by checking their route for traffic conditions with turn-by-turn navigation subscription .
  • Yelp & Foursquare-Receive suggestions, reviews and tips for local businesses from Yelp and Foursquare, including restaurants and shops, and seamlessly navigate to those locations.
  • Social Media check-in-Drivers can check into their destination location on Yelp or Foursquare directly from the Magellan SmartGPS app.
  • Last Mile Navigation-Drivers enjoy seamless transfer of their navigation route from head unit to smartphone, to complete their journey on foot.

As a vehicle progresses on its route, the SmartGPS app accesses the cloud to deliver rich, location-relevant information in "squares" that are displayed on the vehicle head unit display. When the user taps on a square, detailed profile information is displayed including the address, phone and any available special offers or consumer reviews, plus an icon to seamlessly start navigation to their selected destination.

The Magellan navigation software is integrated on the mySPIN platform head units with control access from the touch panel. The Magellan SmartGPS smartphone app connects to the mySPIN platform via smartphone tether, safely putting display and touch control of the application onto the head unit's touch panel. It allows users to continue using their preferred Apps--such as the Magellan SmartGPS smartphone navigation application--on their smartphone in a way they are accustomed to without compromising safety.

The Magellan SmartGPS navigation applications will be available for vehicles integrated with the Bosch mySPIN platform beginning in 2015.

Pricing and Availability

The Magellan SmartGPS smartphone navigation applications for compatible vehicles integrated with the mySPIN platform will be available in iOS and Android stores in Q1 2015. The Magellan SmartGPS Apps are free. The MSRP for a one year subscription for in-app purchase for turn-by-turn navigation with IP traffic is $19.99, the MSRP for a three year subscription is $49.99.
